A graduate of Drake University, David has been a financial planner since 1981. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, a Senior Wealth Coach in the firm, and also has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He received his CFA certification following intensive study in investment portfolio design and management.
In 1997, the central Iowa Chapter of IAFP presented him the Ric Jorgenson Award. This prestigious award is presented annually to the financial planning professional who exemplifies excellence and high standards in the field of financial planning and community service.
Worth magazine has listed David as one of the top financial advisors in the United States. This National recognition comes from David being part of a team that won two national financial planning awards for financial planning case studies. David was published in the American Management Association's Journal of Total Compensation Strategies in 1999 for his work on "Employee Strategies for Stock Based Compensation". He also co-authored a pre-retirement financial planning book for CCH online. He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the Des Moines Register, Business Week, Fox Business News Online, CNN Money online, Bankrate.com, Courant.com, Singapore’s The Straits Times, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Physicians Financial News, Investment News, DSM Men’s Book, IA Biz magazine and appeared on TV for CNBC nationally and KCCI-TV8 in Des Moines Iowa.
David served on the Board of Directors for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards from 2004 through 2008 and served as Chairman in 2008. He also served on the national board of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) for five years from 1996 through 2000. Along with this national involvement he has also participated in global financial planning events. David spoke at the Financial Planning Association of Singapore’s conference in January of 2008 and the CFP Professional International Forum in April 2008 at Christchurch, New Zealand.
Currently he is a member of the CFA Institute, the National Association of Personal Financial Planners (NAPFA), the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy (AIP), and past president and member of the local chapter of the Financial Planning Association (FPA).
He and his wife, Jennifer, live near Winterset, Iowa, have two adult children and all of the family members are avid volleyball players.
